Description

Cambridge is a historic city in Southeast England, located 55 miles north of London on the River Cam. Famous as the home of the prestigious University of Cambridge (founded in 1209), the city is renowned for its stunning collegiate architecture, punting, and as a major high-tech hub. It offers a mix of ancient charm and modern, vibrant culture.

  • University and Architecture: The city is defined by its 31 colleges. Iconic sites include King’s College Chapel, Trinity College, and the Corpus Clock. The architecture spans several centuries, with many colleges featuring dramatic gothic designs and historic, tranquil courtyards.
  • The River Cam and Punting: Punting (operating a flat-bottomed boat with a long pole) on the River Cam is a quintessential activity, offering scenic views of the “Backs”—the back gardens of the colleges.
  • Location and Culture: Located in Cambridgeshire, it is easily reachable from London by train (about an hour) or car. It serves as a bustling, walkable city center with a significant student population, numerous cafes, pubs, and shops.
