Board the iconic cable cars and take a flight across the picturesque Derwent Valley to a fascinating 60-acre historic hilltop park. Discover underground tours; stroll through ancient woodlands; uncover untold history and enjoy an award-winning day out.
Here are some of the things you can do!
Each cable car can take up to 6 guests, and the journey lasts around 7 minutes. You must take the cable car first as it transports you to the hilltop park, where the rest of the attractions are located.
Our stewards will help you off the cable cars and direct you to our welcome host, who will give you any information you need for your day ahead.
Most visitors choose to do a tour of the Masson or Rutland Cavern first. These tours depart every 30 minutes or so and are included in the ticket price. Each tour is approximately 30 minutes. You do not need to book these tours, just join one whenever it suits you.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite exploring the estate, you may wish to head to the main visitor centre for a bite to eat. The Vista Restaurant is located upstairs and serves a sit-down style meal, whereas the Terrace Café is counter service.
Head to the Long View to learn about the 230-year history of the Heights, in the Film Theatre you’ll find the incredible story of how the cable cars were built, and in the new exhibition, A Mirror on the Past, you can see how visitors to the Heights dressed for their day out.
There’s also two large adventure playgrounds for the kids in your group to let off steam, but don’t worry there’s plenty of benches for the grown-ups to sit down and enjoy a warm drink with a beautiful view.

Take a stroll around the 60-acre estate and listen to the self-guided audio tour, which you can access from your smartphone. The tour explains the heritage of the local area and what you can see from various viewpoints.
Possibly the best viewpoint at the Heights, climb the spiral staircase of the Victoria Prospect Tower, built in 1844, for a 360 degree view, 1000ft above sea level.

Matlock Bath
Developed as one of the country’s first tourist destinations, Matlock Bath in Derbyshire retains much of the character and interest that impressed early visitors. Matlock Bath is set in the beautiful gorge of the river Derwent, with attractive riverside gardens, wooded hillsides and rocky limestone crags. A popular tourist destination since the late 17th Century when the spa waters were discovered, its’ heyday was in Victorian, times when it became known as “Little Switzerland” by the poet, Lord Byron. Things to do; An exciting cable car ride takes you up to The Heights of Abraham, where the wooded country park is crowned with the Victoria Prospect Tower. The Great Rutland and Masson Caverns are former lead mines that have been adapted as show caves. The Grand Pavilion houses a Tourist Point and the Peak District Mining Museum. For youngsters, the theme park of Gulliver’s offers hours of fun and enjoyment. There is also an aquarium and a photographic museum in the village. The Riverside Gardens and Lovers Walks offer gentle strolls away from the crowds, and nearby High Tor affords spectacular views from its lofty summit. The Derwent Valley Heritage Trail runs through the village. Half a mile south of the village is the shopping complex and working textile museum at Masson Mills. The majority of trips return from destination between 16:30 and 17:30. The driver will inform you of the exact time on the day, dependant on outward travel times. Whilst we do not guarantee a W/C on board most of our excursion fleet do have toilet facilities. For your comfort we allocate seating at time of booking, however reserve the right to alter or amend your seat allocation for utilisation purposes.
